This
is an ancient complementary treatment based on knowledge developed
over thousands of years in Asia. Current research including MRI and
double blind experiments concur with its empirical uses.
The World Health Organisation recognises
Acupuncture's effectiveness in treating various diseases. In addition,
Acupuncture benefits acute or chronic disorders, it can counteract
side effects of medication and it strengthens the underlying constitution.
Numerous conditions can be treated with Acupuncture across different
states:
Physical: pain, fatigue, menstrual
or digestive disorders
Mental: depression, addictions
Emotional: bereavement, anxiety, PMT
Spiritual: inner alchemy and balance
through changes
Acupuncture is a holistic process which
takes into account causes, signs and symptoms, so syndromes like
stress which affect people in countless different ways are treatable.
Diagnosis is reached through a combination
of questions, observation, palpation, pulse-taking and tongue examination.
Fine, sterile and disposable needles
are then gently inserted at certain points along energy pathways
in the body, to regulate the flow of energy and maintain harmony.
During Acupuncture you may experience a dull, aching, pressure or
tingly sensation. Acupressure,
auricular and electro-acupuncture may also be used if appropriate.
After treatment
You can expect to feel calm. Some people feel exceptionally relaxed
after treatment. Individuals' experiences vary however for some
people improvements are evident immediately after treatment whilst
for others the effects are more subtle.
